to continue the grossness...

So I thought I would have a nice early night tonight after CSI: Miami, but as Iain and I were tidying the kitchen I kept getting this whiff of poo. We discovered the smell was coming from his shoes by the back door so we threw those outside. He went to bed, I took a bath.

I went down to make a cup of tea, and smelled it again. Then I noticed I smelled a little like poo. (I know, some bath, huh?) I lifted a foot and sure enough...Iain must have tracked it in, which meant it would be on the door mat, on his slippers, on my flip-flops, and all over the living room floor.

So I just mopped the entire downstairs with warm bleach water and lemon essential oil (for that extra anti-bacterial kick, and to mask the bleach smell). And that is how I came to be up after midnight on a weeknight AGAIN. If I smell poo when I go downstairs tomorrow morning I'm going to be really pissed off.

I would normally never use chlorine bleach on the floor (only in the toilet sometimes), but when it comes to poo, I become a little OCD. (I even wore socks for the job that I took off and put in the dirty laundry right away. Vik, you'd be so proud!)

I also forgot to mention in my Xo-throwing-up-in-the-cab-story (started under Vik's Team Member of the Month post): I'd forgotten to bring a vomit receptacle so I just opened my purse – you imagine the rest.

Holiday Horror Stories

The Festive season has officially begun here at the Hotel. Decorations went up a week ago, and the first Christmas parties are underway. So of course, the drunken madness begins here...

In order for people to actually buy drinks to get drunk, they have to have some money. Something we were in short supply of this weekend. Lack of sufficient coinage meant that people were being given 20ps in change as we had no £5, no £1 and eventually the 50ps followed suit. Oh dear.

To continue the madness, one guy was taken to hospital with concussion and a bleeding head when a door hit him in the face. And downstairs, a women fell off her chair and was lying unconscious on the floor while I phoned the paramedics and a large crowd gathered to gawk in the restaurant. Some people thought she was dead. She wasn't a Russian spy, in any case. And she didn't die.

And to top it all off... someone threw up all over the corridor and the carpet. From the amount of red wine that was evident, it looked like a bloody suicide had taken place on the 1st floor.

Long live the party season...and it's not even December!

Team Member of the Month!!!!

So at the Hotel, you get 'Starpoints' for every comment card or guest letter that mentions your name. Ever since I started there last year, I have had at least two every month. So they awarded me the Team Member of the Month for the second time this year!!! =) I'm so proud. Starpoints are vouchers, and you get £10 for each comment card, £50 for Colleague of the Month. Hooray! Christmas shopping, here I come!!

It has taught me about the importance of writing comment cards for hotels and other businesses, and yeah, it does make a difference! Good customer service should be rewarded!

I Love to Singa

Sometimes Xoxo and I will sit in front of the computer together and surf YouTube. This is one of our favorite cartoons to watch. When Iain's sister Caitlin was little, we used to watch it on video together. She still loves it too!

(You will need broadband for this.)

Sam Woo: RIP

Gigantic fish head with huge teeth served on a platter.
Dancing around the room in a chain on Popo's 80th birthday.
Karaoke.
Big wobbly orange mango pudding.
Iain's kilt flying up behind the podium because of the strategically placed fans ordered by Dai Yi Ma after the air-conditioners broke down at our wedding banquet.

What's your most enduring Sam Woo memory?

Birthday Girl!!

Well, I've had a pretty nice day today. I got some thoughtful cards and presents, a few emails and birthday texts. I bought myself one of those Giant cakes from Costco for £10 and took it to work to share with my friends. It wasn't too busy and the day passed quite quickly. The chefs cooked me a special lunch and a couple of the guys brought a little cheesecake up to the desk, with a chorus of "Happy birthday" to go with it. Hahahaha. It even had a little candle. How cute! (and embarrassing, as the guests in the Lounge all turned to watch!)

Mike is taking me to see Magic Numbers when I go down to see him next week. We get to spend a few rare days together, and I can't wait! It's hard living apart but the breathing space is, I have to confess, quite good. He sent me some beautiful lillies and bought me the latest CSI boxset, as well as chocolates and a mini cake. My Mom and Vic got me Deluxe Scrabble (yay!), a yummy cake, dinner and lai see. My friends gave me Little Mermaid DVD, pink hairclips, money, and something else which i have yet to receive.

You know, I sorta feel really old but really young. The girls at work are all turning 19!! Lol. I can't believe the age difference sometimes. They're just kids!! I feel like I've been 24 for years now. Haha. I think this year there are really gonna be some changes though. It feels like something interesting is going to happen. This time last year I was in Paris with my Mom. Maybe next year I'll get to go back...Paris, je t'aime.

We had a low key dinner this evening. I had a prawn pad thai at Yaohan Plaza - classy, hmm? Then again, after a whole day of work, I didn't really feel inclined to dress up to go all the way to London. I guess it's not far, but you know what... it's my party, so if I choose a small and inconspicuous dining experience tonight - so be it!! It wasn't too bad. Good company, the food was average. The Chinese fresh cream pandan cake that Vic and Mummy bought for me may have been alarmingly green in colour, but it tasted divine. After all, it was from the 'Wonderful Patisserie'. The words 'blowing', 'own' and 'trumpet' all spring to mind. =)

Anyway, I have about 30 mins left to enjoy my birth day. It's crazy to think that a year has gone by already. This one has been so quick in coming, that my last birthday only seemed like a few short months ago. I think I'd better get to bed. I'm gonna round up the day by watching CSI in bed! Hurray!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Father Christmas

So I have given in to Christmas in November and took Xoxo to Harrod's on Thursday to see Father Christmas because there was no line. (Last year when we went to Harrod's with Victor on December 2 it was packed, and we didn't bother getting in line.) He was enormous, like Mt Shasta. And he made her cry.

So much for her first Santa experience.

She also enjoyed sticking stickers onto the coats of fellow passengers on the crowded Tube, and riding the "choo-choo" to and from London, and looking at all the sheep on the way.

Right now Iain and Xo and I just had brunch of scrambled eggs, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes and sausages - these really nasty but delicious ones called Richmonds that are like sausage-flavored hot dogs - and Mimosas made with an Italian sparkling wine called Prosecco, so we are feeling no pain. I promise we don't do this every weekend. It was just a special occasion thing, minus the actual occasion.

Hello and welcome to everyone who's joined! I'm looking forward to reading about your days. And the more you post, the more fun it will be. One little tip: Instead of posting only in comments, it's good to create new posts so that the content is always fresh from the top.

Hope to hear from you soon! xK

last Saturday night

We had Guy Fawkes fireworks here on the big green on Saturday. It was absolutely freezing but we have missed the big fireworks every year we've been here! The first year we were just late. The other two years we (or I) were in the States. It was pretty impressive for a non-Disney fireworks display. But we are spoiled.

Afterwards we walked up to the pub where Iain plays jazz every other Saturday. The baby wasn't allowed in so we sat outside for awhile with some friends, and then Xo and I went home while Iain stayed to play.

And lastly - FAMILY TIME!!!!! YAY!!!

See, it's not like I'm asking for much now, is it? Hahahaha. Girls and shopping, hmm??

So what is everybody else hoping for this year?

why I did this

Hi Romy
Hi Tammy
Hi Hedy
Hi Kevin
Hi Anita
Hi Lawrence
Hi Bryan
Hi Alison
Hi Vics

Did I forget anyone?

This has been prompted by the recent closing of Sam Woo, and a chat I had with Bryan about it on AIM the other day. It went like this:

B: SAM WOO CLOSEDi know i know.. i can't believe i said those words but it closed...
K: oh my god
B: RIGHT that' what i said
K: why???
B: alison called and said... i have some life altering but not life threatening news: SAM WOO CLOSED
i guess a recent health code violation shut them down and the owner didnt want to open it back up
K: ew
B: who knows but it just happened a couple days ago; family was in shock
K: WHERE WILL WE EAT?
B: ahahah i was thikning... where is grandma goin to eat
K: WE WILL STARVE!!!
B: WHERE ARE WE GETTIN DIM SUM
B: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
B: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

And this made me wish we were all in the same room to laugh and cry about this family tragedy.

Plus it would be nice to have all Victor's travel posts archived here, for example, and we can keep each other up to date with the babies and life and stuff. Plus plan for birthdays and things. Plus I miss you!

So I'm inviting you to post. What do you think?

xK

PS Of course spouses, kids, aunts, parents and naturally PoPo are all welcome too. Hi!
