Birthday Girl!!
Well, I've had a pretty nice day today. I got some thoughtful cards and presents, a few emails and birthday texts. I bought myself one of those Giant cakes from Costco for £10 and took it to work to share with my friends. It wasn't too busy and the day passed quite quickly. The chefs cooked me a special lunch and a couple of the guys brought a little cheesecake up to the desk, with a chorus of "Happy birthday" to go with it. Hahahaha. It even had a little candle. How cute! (and embarrassing, as the guests in the Lounge all turned to watch!)
Mike is taking me to see Magic Numbers when I go down to see him next week. We get to spend a few rare days together, and I can't wait! It's hard living apart but the breathing space is, I have to confess, quite good. He sent me some beautiful lillies and bought me the latest CSI boxset, as well as chocolates and a mini cake. My Mom and Vic got me Deluxe Scrabble (yay!), a yummy cake, dinner and lai see. My friends gave me Little Mermaid DVD, pink hairclips, money, and something else which i have yet to receive.
You know, I sorta feel really old but really young. The girls at work are all turning 19!! Lol. I can't believe the age difference sometimes. They're just kids!! I feel like I've been 24 for years now. Haha. I think this year there are really gonna be some changes though. It feels like something interesting is going to happen. This time last year I was in Paris with my Mom. Maybe next year I'll get to go back...Paris, je t'aime.
We had a low key dinner this evening. I had a prawn pad thai at Yaohan Plaza - classy, hmm? Then again, after a whole day of work, I didn't really feel inclined to dress up to go all the way to London. I guess it's not far, but you know what... it's my party, so if I choose a small and inconspicuous dining experience tonight - so be it!! It wasn't too bad. Good company, the food was average. The Chinese fresh cream pandan cake that Vic and Mummy bought for me may have been alarmingly green in colour, but it tasted divine. After all, it was from the 'Wonderful Patisserie'. The words 'blowing', 'own' and 'trumpet' all spring to mind. =)
Anyway, I have about 30 mins left to enjoy my birth day. It's crazy to think that a year has gone by already. This one has been so quick in coming, that my last birthday only seemed like a few short months ago. I think I'd better get to bed. I'm gonna round up the day by watching CSI in bed! Hurray!
Happy Birthday to Me!

Oh no! I forgot as usual! Happy birthday. Glad to hear it was a nice one.
I just made my first galette, in fact my first pastry ever. Apple. So next time you come over I'll make it for you. The texture of the pastry was amazing with ice cream. Really flaky and rich. Never mind one small galette took half a UK stick of butter, which I think is twice as big as a US stick!
PS CSI regular, or Miami?
That sounds delcicious!! =)
Regular CSI for me, though I am actually coming round to the merits of Miami and NY. The story lines are great, though the characters are not so engaging.
Speak to you soon xxx
I just realized that the cake count in this post is an alarming 4. Did you eat them all in one 24-hour period?
OMG, you're right!!! =) Hahahahaha. On a more not-so-funny note, I'm well fat now. =( No more cakes.
Well, the continuation of my birthday goes like this:
I came down to Mike's in Wales for 4 days (a blissful and well-deserved 4 days off from work) and we did the usual nice couple things.
Mike took me to see the Magic Numbers at the Student Union. And in case you've never heard of them, The Magic Numbers are this great band consisting of 2 sets of siblings. (Great example of 'family' project successes!) and you can listen to samples of their music on the website too. I LOVE THE MAGIC NUMBERS!!!!! It was so cool to see them live. It was my first real live gig! =)
Last night Mike and I went to this beautiful old hotel for dinner in an old Roman town near to his house. The Priory hotel in Caerleon used to be a monastery and nunnery and the building dates back to the 12th Century! They have this fantastic Oak Bar, and you pick you food from this fabulous fresh counter at the back. Salmon, sea bass, swordfish, giant shrimps, lobsters, crevettes, rack of lamb, pheasant, venison, fillet steak - it's all there for your viewing (and eating) pleasure! Mike had cajun swordfish with a lemon and olive dressing, and I had the most tender fillet steak I've ever eaten!!! Delicious!! All followed up with rapsberry pavlova and creme brulee and coffee. We also had an amazing red wine from Spain - Marques de Caceres. If you find this wine anywhere- buy it! I highly recommend it - you won't be disappointed. It's really easy to drink.
After dinner, we went out in to the wild, Welsh countryside to watch the annual Leonid meteor shower. Lawrence, remember Lake Tahoe?? It was kinda like that. So many stars. It was so beautiful. The perfect way to round of my birthday(s). I found out it was my chinese birthday yesterday. Which was quite appropriate. We ate the baby fruit cake that Mike gave me last week (cake 3) and we watched the shooting stars and made wishes, and Mike gave me a lai see!
Happy second birthday to me!
